Sarkisian, Aliev Hold Talks

SAINT PETERSBURG (Combined Sources)–The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan held what officials described as “constructive” talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the Russian city of Saint-Petersburg on Friday.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev and his recently elected Armenian counterpart, Serzh Sarkisian, met for the first time on the sidelines of a summit of former Soviet states. International mediators hoped that they would kick-start the Karabakh peace process, which has been stalled since last year. Read more

WASHINGTON–Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) became the latest House member to join the army of Washington, DC public relations firms working to cover up Turkey’s crimes, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
Dickstein Shapiro, LLP announced that the former Speaker joined their team in a press release last week. The firm, which represents a broad range of entities including General Motors, Kraft Foods and Pfizer, also represents the Government of Turkey “in connection with the development and financing by private sponsors of the Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline and TransCaspian gas pipeline spanning from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean.” Read more

Lake Van is Dying, Say Scientists

VAN (Combined Sources)–Scientists in Turkey have warned that Lake Van in the southeastern part of the country will disappear in the next 10-15 years if no radical measures are applied to save it. Lake Van is regarded the fifth biggest lake in Europe.
Lake Van, in the historic Armenian province of Vaspurakan, is the cradle of Armenian civilization and has been the capital of various Armenian Kingdoms throughout history. It is regarded as the fifth largest lake in Europe.
The warning came from the Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association (TURMEPA). Read more

Karekin II Urges Armenian Genocide Recognition Before Pope

VATICAN CITY (Combined Sources)–His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians on Wednesday spoke at the Vatican saying the whole world should recognize the crime against humanity.
“We Armenians are a people who have survived genocide, and we know well the value of love, brotherhood, friendship and a secure life,” Catholicos Karekin II said in a public address during Pope Benedict’s general audience in St Peter’s Square.
“Today, many countries of the world recognize and condemn the genocide committed against the Armenian people by Ottoman Turkey…” the head of Armenia’s Apostolic Church added, speaking in English before tens of thousands of people. Read more
