On Saturday during a rally in the Freedom square of Yerevan presidential candidate Arthur Baghdasaryan announced that he had received a call threatening to kill him. However, A. Baghdasaryan did not inform any details concerning who called him and how, but he said that if anything happened to him the authorities would be the ones to be responsible for it. “I am ready to die, to give my life in favor of Armenia,” said Arthur Baghdasaryan and assured that no one could terror him. Yesterday several candidates expressed their opinions concerning this announcement. “I think it is a pre-election trick. If there has been such thing, he could apply to the police. I asked the police in the morning and they told me that there had not been any applications so far,” said ARP candidate PM Serzh Sargsyan. In addition, Vahan Hovhannisyan said that those who are ready to sacrifice their life in favor of our country could do it in Karabakh. By the way, Tigran Karapetyan is the only presidential candidate who has condemned the terror. Read more

Last year two pre-election headquarters of presidential candidates were attacked. The police department of Nor-Nork received a call from Serzh Sargsyan’s campaign manager of that district Seryozha Alexanyan and was informed that two unknown persons had opened fire at the pre-election headquarter located at Mari 12 street of Nor-Nork. Some time later Alexanyan again called the police and informed that another incident had happened too and some people opened fire at the beauty saloon near the pre-election headquarter at Mikoyan street of Yerevan. The public prosecutor’s office of Yerevan sent a group of investigators to the place of incident, who found out that the incident took place at 02:03, as a result of which the windows were broken. Recently the chair of “Republic” party Aram Z. Sargsyan, who endorses Ter-Petrosyan, announced that they can say things about Artashes Geghamyan too, which will make him be shame and stay at home for weeks. “However, as he has sons and a wife, we will not say such things,” Aram Z. Sargsyan said. This announcement was accepted by Geghamyan as a threat for certain actions. “Threatening me will bring to the other results than the expected results. If they are trying to bring the culture of political achievements trough beating or threatening they will not have any positive results. There is fright and malice in them and they are trying to threaten the others. As people say, the small kid wants to kick the sportsman”. The campaign process is becoming more passioned. In fact, the biggest conflict of the last week was between Geghamyan and Sargsyan. The latter has answered to the campaign against Levon Ter-Petrosyan on the part of Geghamyan and said, “Don’t cross the borders, otherwise you will get it”. Read more

While the presidential candidates are speaking about the necessity to fight corruption yesterday the government made a decision on fighting against the fight against corruption. The presidential pre-election official campaign commenced yesterday. Candidates will have an opportunity to use free and paid air time on the national TV channel starting from tomorrow. Ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s campaign manager Alexander Arzumanyan has told our correspondent that this delay in providing air time on the national TV channel “is conditioned by certain technical problems, but it is clear that it has political reasons”. The problem is that Levon Ter-Petrosyan and his supporters are organizing a rally today and they were going to announce about it on the air of the national TV channel. By the way, almost all the TV companies besides the national TV have made an announcement concerning this rally. Yesterday we were informed by the national TV company that they were doing monthly works and that the mentioned delay had no political reasons since they had finished those works by the time defined by the Central Electoral Commission. According to them, the CEC has issued a decision stating that H1 is to provide air time to candidates starting from January 23. “They shouldn’t look for a black cat where there are no cats,” we were told by H1. During the upcoming presidential elections almost all candidates will give different promises concerning health care and social field development. The authorities will say that during the past years they have done their best to improve the situation in those fields, and the opposition will announce that after coming to power they will work better. Neither the promises of the authorities, nor the promises of the opposition will help Vilik, a young man aged 18 living not far from the train station, to improve his health conditions, who is close to death because of not having money as he is being taken from one hospital to another, but doctors don’t help him as he doesn’t have money to pay.
