BAKU (Combined Sources)–Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul visited Azerbaijan on Wednesday to discuss recent developments in the region, taking a step forward in his country’s efforts to help the resolution of conflicts. Efforts to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh were among top issues on the agenda.

Gul was welcomed in Baku by Azeri President Heydar Aliyev and the Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilic.

Asked, during his flight to Baku, if his recent visit to Armenia offended Azerbaijan, Gul said that “Azerbaijan should not have been offended. Such an act would be unfair. Turkey has been a great supporter of Azerbaijan. We are part of the same nation (with Azerbaijan). I do not think that our relations have weakened. We have respect for all views.”

“We are going to share our assessments on the latest developments in the region with Aliyev… We are going to discuss Caucasus Stability and Partnership Platform. I am going to explain my impressions from my visit to Armenia last week” Gul told reporters at the airport before he left for Azerbaijani capital Baku.

Gul’s Azerbaijan visit came days after his visit to Yerevan.

Ankara has intensified its diplomatic efforts for the Caucasus region as well as Middle East since the Georgia-Russia war in August.
