New Year Resolution?: PACE decision on Armenian status a month away

Approaching the January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg that will again review Armenia’s compliance with its April and June resolutions on the post-election clashes in Yerevan, the Armenian capital’s Northern Avenue has again become site of political “walks”. Each cold afternoon small groups gather on Yerevan’s centerpiece boulevard to express their dissatisfaction with the current political situation in the country.

Ինչպես հայտնի է, Եվրոպայի խորհրդի Մարդու իրավունքների հանձնակատար Թոմաս Համմարբերգը, որը նոյեմբերի 20-ից 22-ը հատուկ այցով գտնվում էր Հայաստանում, հայտարարել էր, թե՝ «ազատությունից զրկված անձանց իրավիճակը շարունակում է լուրջ մտահոգության պատճառ լինել»: Նա ափսոսանք էր հայտնել, որ թվով 19 անձանց նկատմամբ քրգործերը հիմնված էին միայն ոստիկանական վկայության վրա, եւ հավելել էր՝ այդ պահի դրությամբ, մասնավորապես՝ «Յոթի» գործի շրջանակներում, ինքը «չի հանդիպել այնպիսի ապացույցների, որոնց հիման վրա անկախ դատարանը կկարողանար այդ 7 հոգուն մեղադրել կամ դատապարտել բռնությամբ իշխանությունը յուրացնելու մեջ»: Համմարբերգը նաեւ խոստացել էր իր վերջնական կարծիքը այդ գործի առնչությամբ հայտնել «Յոթի» գործով մեղադրական եզրակացությանը ծանոթանալուց հետո: Read more

Refused

The city administration office of Yerevan has refused the application of the Right and Freedoms Center to organize a march on the international day of human rights protection. The mentioned center was informed about the fact that their application had been rejected from non-official sources even though they had submitted the letter six days before the march would take place. The city administration office failed to give an official answer. The participants of the march would gather in the North Avenue, and then walk to the general prosecutor’s office without any harm to traffic. Now the authorities don’t even try to organize any events for children to substantiate their refusal. Thus, the government directly refused to allow to organize an event in favor of something which does not exist in Armenia, i.e. which was annihilated by the authorities.
